Aegerter 10th in Austria, Mulhauser missed a good opportunity
His weekend was perfect until the last lap: fighting with the best riders of his category, Thomas Lüthi (Garage Plus Interwetten) was still holding a provisional podium position a few centimeters before the finish line of the Austrian Moto2 Grand Prix before he suddenly lost two positions. Disappointed with the end of the race, the best Swiss representative of the world championship was nevertheless able to show this weekend that he is going to play a part in this second half of the season. And that is going to be so already next weekend in Brno, the Czech Republic. Back in business since free practice, Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten) also had a frustrating race, pushing very hard to save these six points for a tenth position. Finally, Robin Mulhauser was disappointed that he was not able to stick with a good group. Given the situation, the impression of Frédéric Corminboeuf, the boss of the double Swiss structure, is mixed: "Overall if we forget about the last lap, Tom deserved a podium this weekend and the second position. Unfortunately, after Morbidelli's attack in corner number 3, the two of them slowed down, which allowed Rins to catch up. We know what happened then and I know that Tom will react immediately; it is a pity because I really wanted to offer our partners a nice podium. Dominique had a solid race, he is gaining his confidence back step by step. As for Robin, I don't know what to say: he likes this circuit, he had a bike to do well, but he missed the opportunity." They said...
Dominique Aegerter (carXpert Interwetten, 10th): "I am disappointed. I had the right pace in the four practice sessions, the bike was responding well to small changes that we made but in the race I wasn't able to find a good feeling. I was on the limit with my forces, I made a few mistakes but the bike simply did not want to turn normally to the left hand corners and the last two corners. I was much more relaxed during practice and when one is as tense as me today, I know that it is not possible to do the times. I hope that the questions regarding my future will be answered in the next days so I can concentrate solely on my job as a rider."
Robin Mulhauser (carXpert Interwetten, 25th): "My start was not bad but I simply did not have enough grip at the beginning of the race and I was losing a lot of time on acceleration. I was with Wilairot when Syahrin passed us, we tried to stay with him but in vain. In addition, with five laps to go I started to experience gearbox problems, the first two links stopped working and I lost two positions. That said, 23rd or 25th, that does not make much difference: I want a lot more than that."
