Aegerter superb fifth, Krummenacher runs out of energy

18.08.2013

This man is a fighter, he demonstrates it every single weekend: in the heat of Indianapolis Speedway, Dominique Aegerter (Suter MMX2) made a fantastic race where he finished in 5th position, almost on the back wheel of Spaniard Pol Espargaró - 80 thousands behind him. This performance means that "Domi" has now strengthened his 4th position in the overall world championship standings, a few days before he returns back to Europe. Affected by his injury, Randy Krummenacher (20th) had to clench his teeth to finish his chore.

Dominique Aegerter (5th): "I was fighting from the first until the last corner; there's nothing to reproach for my strategy. In numbers, a Top 5 finish is good, it's my objective in every race after all. But today it has a slightly bitter taste; I am consistent, precise to ride really fast the whole distance of a race. I am not losing more than 2,7 seconds on the winner, that means something. But unfortunately I have not yet been able to produce a flying lap during qualifying that would put me on the front row of the starting grid and that is where I need to improve. From a technical point of view, compared to my rivals, I could tell that I was losing a few meters on the final straight and even with suction it is still difficult to overtake. Therefore we have to analyse this problem. Does it stem from an aerodynamic deficit? Are we missing some traction in corner exits? There is a lot of work to be done to understand this small handicap that forced me to ride like crazy in technical parts to compensate for it."

Randy Krummenacher (20th): "My start was average but two rivals hit me from the back in the first meters and I found myself in the depth of the field. Later I was working well but after 5 or 6 laps I started to make unusual mistakes. Then I was lacking energy, I couldn't do more, pain was back and it was too much. I still really wanted to finish the race."
