Aegerter misses out on pole position, Mulhauser crashes

27.06.2014

A very strong man from the beginning of the race weekend, always in Top-3 of the overall classification, the author of the greatest number of fast laps: Dominique Aegerter will start on Saturday in Assen (The Netherlands) from the front row of the starting grid (2nd) as one of the hottest candidates for the victory. The Technomag-carXpert Team rider missed out on his first ever pole position by 0.151 seconds. His teammate in the Swiss Team, Robin Mulhauser, was lucky despite a high-speed crash when he jumped off his bike before it hit the wall and only suffered some bruises.

Dominique Aegerter (2nd): "I really believed that I was finally going to have this pole and I did everything I could to make it happen. Of course I was disappointed to lose out as it was so close but it is the race that counts and I have a great starting position. What is even more important is my consistency on this circuit in Assen. Many things can happen on Saturday; no one knows exactly what the weather conditions are going to be like. If it's dry, it could be a big day for me. If the conditions are mixed, it will be more risky. I like this track and we could see that last year when I finished third in the race."

Fred Corminboeuf (Team manager) on behalf of Robin Mulhauser (31st): "Robin wasn't well awarded for his efforts today. He woke up with a fever, which did not prevent him from giving a good performance in free practice. Then he had a great start to the qualifying session too. Later on when he went out at the end of the session, he was braking too much and the bike went straight to the gravel, where he showed a swift reaction jumping off the bike before the collision. He has a painful ankle and some bruises but he will be able to race tomorrow. His bike, on the other hand, was completely destroyed."
