Aegerter contracts for 2014, Mulhauser surprises
Victim of a crash with 10 minutes remaining in the qualifying session, Dominique Aegerter (Team Technomag-carXpert) will start only from the seventh row of the starting grid in the GP of Aragon on the MotorLand circuit (19th fastest). Having succeeded in getting back out on track, the sixth rider of the provisional overall world championship classification did not manage to improve his lap time. However, what is more important for "Domi", Frédéric Corminboeuf, team manager of the Swiss team, confirmed that a new contract for the upcoming year has been signed with Aegerter. Another good news of this weekend so far has been the performance of Robin Mulhauser: the youngster from Fribourg, who replaces Randy Krummenacher (unfit), continues his progress. 28th on the grid, he leaves behind himself five riders with a much greater experience in this category.
Dominique Aegerter (19th): "Positive news is that I know where I am going to be next year. For the rest, I am very disappointed with my qualifying. Between the free practice this morning and qualifying, we certainly made a step forward but it was not sufficient. I am losing more than a second on pole position and that is too much. I am struggling to find enough confidence on this circuit and that is also why I crashed. Nineteenth on the grid is not a comfortable starting position, but if I look at the gaps between myself and those who are in front of me, I know that I am capable of beating some of them to fight for a Top-10 finish at least. It is quite clear in our category: everything has to be perfect to stay in the front and we have not yet found the right solution here in Aragon."
Robin Mulhauser (28th): "Even though no one saw me, I had a small crash at the beginning of the session. For the rest, I continue to learn, I make fewer mistakes than on Friday and I have also realised that reaching my ideal time gets easier if I stay calm. At the end of the session, Japanese Nakagami overtook me and I told myself - go for it, this is your chance. I was trying to stay with him as long as possible to eventually gain only a tenth of a second. I am an apprentice this weekend: so in this qualifying I found myself behind French Johann Zarco and learnt many things in only one single corner. And for the race? I know that it is not going to be easy because it's twice as long as the distance I am used to from the European Superstock Championship, however, I would really like to stay close to Roman Ramos, the leader of the Spanish Moto2 championship, who will start from only one row closer to the front."
