Aegerter closer to the overall podium, Krummenacher battles with an injury
The day ended well for the Technomag-carXpert team after a dramatic warm-up this morning where Randy Krummenacher could not avoid a collision with Mariñelarena from Spain, who accidently switched his engine off on the final straight. His Suter MMX2 number 4 hit the wall with the rider suffering some minor fractures to his right hand. Fred Corminboeuf and Gilles Bigot's team succeeded in rebuilding the bike completely in 2 hours for the race, where Dominique Aegerter (10th), having struggled earlier this weekend, reminded us that he is a dedicated fighter. The result? While the Moto2 championship will take a month's break, Dominique moved up to 4th in the overall world championship classification, 5 points off the provisional podium.
Dominique Aegerter (10th): "After the problems that we had this weekend, I can say that I am satisfied with my race. I was consistent but if one has to start so far in the back of the grid on such a narrow circuit where chances to overtake are limited, we couldn't have expected much more. I still have problems with this track, I would say that it goes against my riding style. You have to be really careful to save tyres but I tend to brake rather late. I used the 29-lap distance to learn, to look for other solutions, bearing in mind the future. It's time for holidays now: in 8 races so far I have always been in Top-10, 4 times in Top-4. I am 4th in the championship and I know that after the holidays we'll be back in action in Indianapolis, where I feel comfortable. Everything looks positive and I will give myself a week of total relaxation in Greece before I take up my physical preparation again."
Randy Krummenacher (18th): "I broke 2 fingers on my right hand in the accident this morning. Also I realised very quickly that there was a big problem with my rear tyre. When the race was over we could see that the tyre was completely torn off on the flanks. The beginning of the race was difficult for me because of what happened in the warm-up. Later, I was able to slowly get into a better pace and approach the points before I had to slow down in the last 3 or 4 laps because the bike was not behaving well at all anymore due to the defective tyre."
