Aegerter (6th) on the second row, Mulhauser (two crashes) disappointed
In an extreme heat - 30 degrees air, 41 track temperature, 38% humidity -qualifying for the Moto2 Grand Prix of the Czech Republic on the circuit of Brno saw an extremely high level of performance and record breaking lap times. Impressive from the start, Thomas Lüthi (Derendinger Racing Interwetten), was eventually awarded with a fifth position, which will put him in the middle of the second row on the starting grid. He will have his teammate Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten), who finished sixth, right by his side. Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten) could have expected a lot more than a 24th position but for a crash that cost him 15 minutes. A sum up of this hot day from the boss of the two teams, Frédéric Corminboeuf: "Tom had a fantastic start to the qualifying session confirming what he has been showing throughout practice but unfortunately he did not manage to find the two tenths of a second that would have put him on the front row tomorrow. That is where we have to work. Dominique's position next to Tom on the second row is great; knowing his strong starts and first laps, I am sure that we will see him in the front. Once he is there, he will try to stay. As for Robin, he has demonstrated some encouraging signs and the fact that he is angry with himself is a good thing. Unfortunately two crashes - one this morning and one in the afternoon - in one day is too much. It really is a pity because he had the potential to be in the Top-20."
They said...
Dominique Aegerter (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 6th): "It is a great position but the gap - more than 8 tenths - is too much. I did not manage to find a good pace. I did this lap time behind Rabat but I worry that it does not reflect where I really stand. That being said, we will probably race in a slower pace than in qualifying and so I will have a word to say. Choice of tires? As I said yesterday, there is not much difference between the softer and the harder tire."
Robin Mulhauser (Technomag Racing Interwetten, 24th): "I am angry because I am sure that Top-20 was possible today. I crashed twice and especially this morning in the third free practice the crash was serious. This afternoon again, I could not avoid the mistake, I lost 15 minutes then went out again and managed to do 1'03.9 by myself; the potential to do much better was there. A stormy Sunday has been predicted, I like this kind of situation and my objective is clear: Top-20 and if possible, points again."
